Churros in Madrid

Churros con chocolate - for breakfast in Madrid, there's nothing finer. We found the best place in town, Maestro Churrero, a little corner shop that does nothing other than these delicious deep fried pastries ever morning served with a cup of steaming, thick hot-chocolate. The shop has been around for over a hundred years so I guess they know what's up. The little pastries are called churros and large ones porra. Fantastic, these were the best thing about Madrid. Close runners up: the Reina Sophia, a fabulous museum of modern art, rioja, tapas (honorable mention pictured here, gambas al ajillo), and jamon iberico (like prosciutto but just better), and stuffed toro heads in the bars, each one honored with a placard detailing their names and their fighting stats.

Mmmm. Churros covered in cinnamon sugar at the California State Fair. Good times.
